A boy awoke in a forest, bereft of all memories, with only the voice of Lucifurius to guide him. Lucifurius explained to the boy that he was his father and the progenitor of all daemons; but, he did not currently have a body of his own, and had to use the boy as his host. Lucifurius’ goal was to acquire a body of his own, so that he could rule over the Earth as he did his own world, the Dark World. To create a body for himself, he would need life force gathered from felled humans. And so, Lucifurius guided the boy to a village and taught him how to hunt, justifying this with stories of the cruelty of humans towards his daemon brethren. Pleased with the boy’s first slaughter, Lucifurius named him Albtraum—nightmare.
From that day onwards, Albtraum became an infamous killer, focusing especially on killing soldiers throughout the land. This continued for many years, and he had never lost a fight until, as a young man, he encountered his first immortal. Unable to kill her, he began fighting with increased ferocity. However, Albtraum’s resolve began to falter, if only slightly, when Lucifurius took too much of his life force and nearly killed him.
Not long after this, Albtraum entered a small city-state called Sylva, drawn to the powerful life force emanating there. In Sylva he was attacked by the first immortal he encountered, Ismaire, and soon found himself captured by the city’s queen, Mianna.
